Gratien Gélinas, 100 ans et une affiche de plus.
Lundi soir, le 14 décembre, avait lieu le lancement du documentaire Gratien Gélinas un géant aux pieds d’argile, réalisé par Pascal Gélinas, son fils et produit par InformAction Films.
La soirée se déroulait au TNM, lieu hautement symbolique, anciennement la Comédie-Canadienne, fondée en 1957 par Gratien Gélinas, qui aurait 100 ans cette année. À cet effet, un livre à également été lancé et vaut la peine d’être consulté. Chez Toast, nous avons fait l’affiche de ce documentaire, inspirée par les affiches du temps de Gratien ainsi que la couleur de ses productions. Nous avons aussi célébré lundi soir et bien bu pour honorer ce grand homme lors de la première.
Le film est présenté, demain, vendredi 18 décembre, 21h à Radio-Canada. En reprise dimanche à 14h. Je vous le recommande fortement; c’est comme un petit cours d’histoire, gratuit et incontournable (je trouve incompréhensible que nous n’en sachions pas plus sur cet homme qui a fait beaucoup pour le théâtre québécois et canadien). Monday evening, December 14th, was the premiere of Gratien Gélinas un géant aux pieds d’argile, a documentary on Quebec theatre icon Gratien Gélinas,directed by the son of the French Canadian stage actor and produced by InformAction Films.
The premiere took place at the TNM, a highly symbolic venue for the occasion, as it was formerly home to La Comédie-Canadienne, founded in 1957 by Gélinas himself, who woud have turned 100 this year. A new book on the subject (in French only) was also released and is worth reading.
Toast designed the poster, one reminiscent of those from Gratien’s era and of the colour palette used in his productions. We also celebrated a bit (and sipped a few) at the Monday premiere in honour of this great man.
The film runs Friday, December 18th, at 9 p.m, on Radio-Canada. I strongly urge you to watch it: it’s like a short history class, free, and not-to-be-missed. It will be on again Sunday, at 2 p.m. (It’s surprising how little we know about this man who did so much for Canadian and Quebec drama!). Let me sign off by wishing you all Happy Holidays!
