Ce soir, en première aux RIDM, un magnifique et touchant documentaire de Tally Abecassis, Small Wonders. Si vous allez n’en voir qu’un, allez voir celui-ci. La direction photo de Claudine Sauvé fait de ce film un bijou pour l’oeil.

Voici l’affiche et comme j’en prends l’habitude, l’endos du carton d’invitation.

Tonight, premiering at RIDM, is Small Wonders , the beautiful and touching documentary by Tally Abecassis. If you only go see one, go see that one. Director of photography Claudine Sauvé makes this movie a delight for the eyes.

Une tonne d’images “Came Out”

Magnifique projet qu’est celui de You Came Out, dernier titre du trio électro-pop londonien We Have Band. 3 jours de tournage, 6000 frames originaux dont 4 815 finaux ont été mis en ligne sur Flickr, un vidéo clip et un “making of” sont sortis aujourd’hui pour le bonheur de nos yeux.

La vidéo a été conçue par Fabian Berglund et Ida Gronblom de chez Wieden + Kennedy London et réalisé par David Wilson. Les images sont réutilisables sous la licence Creative Commons By-Sa.

A Bunch of Images “Came Out”

You Came Out, latest single from London electro-pop trio We Have Band. is a simply magnificent project. 3 days of shooting, 6000 original frames—4 815 of which have been posted online on Flickr—a music video and a making of have been released today for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

The video was a concept in collaboration with Fabian Berglund and Ida Gronblom from chez Wieden + Kennedy London and directed by David Wilson. The images are reusable under the Creative Commons By-Sa license.

Kalup Linzy à Montréal

Hier soir je suis allée faire un tour à la très belle Galerie Parisian Laundry dans le quartier St-Henri pour assister au vernissage de “Comedy, Tragedy, Sketches of Me“. Pour la première fois au Canada, l’artiste New Yorkais Kalup Linzy y présentait son univers de vidéos et performances. Connu pour sa série de vidéos satiriques où l’approche et le ton naratif sont empreints d’humour, où la tendresse côtoie la vulgarité et la sincérité. Linzy y incarne lui-même plusieurs caractères dont quelques drags queen, caractères qu’il amènera avec lui sur scène par la suite, en chansons et piano.

Univers séduisant et amusant j’ai beaucoup apprécié ma soirée. Fait à noter, son travail a été publié dans le New York Times, Art in America et Artforum. En 2007 il a été nommé boursier Guggenheim et en 2008 il a reçu un Creative Capital Grant.

La performance de l’artiste n’avait lieu qu’hier mais l’exposition se déroule du 8 mai au 13 juin 2009. Je recommande, surtout avec la température grise qui nous assaille.

Kalup Linzy in Montreal

Last night I went to check out Parisian Laundry, lovely gallery in the St-Henri neighbourhood, to go to the opening of “Comedy, Tragedy, Sketches of Me”. For the first time in Canada, New York artist Kalup Linzy is presenting his world of videos and performances there. Known for his series of satirical videos where his approach and narrative tone is marked by humour, where tenderness rubs alongside vulgarity and sincerity. Linzy himself plays several characters, including a few drag queens, characters he will then bring on stage with him, in song and piano.

A seducing and fun environment, I really enjoyed my night. It is important to note that his work was published in The New York Times, Art in America and Artforum. In 2007, he received the Guggenheim grant and in 2008 received a Creative Capital Grant.

The artist’s performance was only held last night, but the exposition runs from 8 May to 13 June 2009. I strongly recommend it, especially with the grey weather we’re having.

On connaissait les “Méta-matics” (les machines à dessiner de Jean Tinguely), voici maintenant leur équivalent écologique.

J’aime beaucoup l’idée très poétique de faire dessiner les arbres, et le fait est, que certains ont un sens de la composition très poussé !

Bon, Tim Knowles, fait aussi dessiner les voitures, et même les paquets postaux, ce qui est moins poétiques mais tout aussi intéressant, surtout si on compare les productions entre elles.

Tree Artists

We knew about the “Méta-matics” (Jean Tinguely’s drawing machines). Now, here is their ecological counterpart.

I really like the poetic idea of making trees draw, and the fact is that some have a very good sense of composition!

Tim Knowles also makes cars draw and even postal packages, which, while slightly less poetic, is just as interesting, especially if we compare the results.

Il y a trop peu de temps, j’ai découvert le talent photographique d’Olivia Bee. Cette jeune fille d’à peine 15 ans fait un travail tout à fait surprenant pour son âge. La mise en scène, le traitement du sujet, de la lumière… Tout nous transporte dans un ailleurs poétique, énigmatique où la beauté prédomine.

A much too short time ago, I discovered the photographic talent of Olivia Bee. At barely 15 years old, this young lady does surprising work for her age. The staging, subject and light treatment come together to bring us somewhere where poetry, enigma and beauty prevail.

La terre est binaire !

Helmut Smits, artiste Hollandais a créer ce “Dead pixel in Google Earth”.
C’est un carré de terre brûlée de 82 cm de côté (taille d’un pixel quand on est a une altitude de 1km dans Google Earth).

J’adore l’idée que le réel et le virtuel puisse se mêler ainsi !
L’histoire ne dit pas à partir de combien de pixels morts la terre est garantie…

Binary Earth !

Dutch artist Helmut Smits created a “Dead Pixel in Google Earth”. It’s a 82cm_ patch of burnt grass, which is the size of a pixel when you’re at an altitude of 1km in Google Earth.

I love the idea that reality and virtual reality can mingle in such a way.
The story doesn’t say how many dead pixels Earth is under warranty for, though…
