One of Toast’s friends mailed us this today.
The picture is on the Halifax airport website (click on it, below “Terminal Map” or right here). For starters, this isn’t a small regional airfield, so it’s not just a minuscule infrastructure.
Its bilingual content seems to be decent until you start to read it, that is:
* “BACK button” is translated by “Bouton de DOS” (meaning button for the BACK, as in body part)
* “CLOSE” becomes “ÉTROITE” (narrow?)
* “Rollover icon for definition” is transformed into “L’icône de refinancement pour la définition” (the refinancing icon for the definition!)
* “Wireless internet” is “Internet mobile”
These are just a few examples.
With the RCMP’s latest mishaps in BC, Google Translate is sure getting a bad rep!
